On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared moments from the warm reception he received from the Indian community in Tianjin, China, as he arrived for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. In a post on X, he remarked, “The Indian community in China gave a very special welcome in Tianjin. Here are some glimpses.”
The event showcased traditional Kathak and Odissi dances, along with classical music, reflecting India's rich cultural heritage. Many performers and members of the diaspora expressed their joy at meeting the Prime Minister. An Odissi dancer, Zhang Jinghui, shared, “I felt a bit nervous, but it is a great honor for me and my crew… He asked me where I learned this.”
She continued, “I learned from India, and my guruji is Sanchita Bhattacharyaa from Kolkata.” Saubhik Mandal, a scientist from the Indian diaspora in Shanghai, commented, “It was an incredible experience. I traveled from Shanghai to see PM Modi in person… The biotech sector holds immense potential for growth given the populations of both countries.”
He added, “PM Modi’s message of ‘perform, reform, and transform’ is excellent.” Zhuang Jing, who performed on the tabla, expressed his excitement, stating, “We gave our best performance. I believe the PM appreciated our classical music. It was an honor to perform for such a nice person, which I never expected.”
During his two-day official visit, PM Modi will participate in the SCO Summit and is anticipated to engage in discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
